Asthma patients who receive text alerts during days of high asthma danger report feeling better about controlling my asthma, more aware of asthma of symptoms, and reminded them to take their medication. Patients also report the Text helped them avoid pollution, reduce indoor triggers, and increased communication with their doctors.
SmartAirLA partners with Esperanza Community Housing and St. John’s Well Child and Family Health Centers to provide the FightAsthma Text for free to English and Spanish-speaking asthma patients in South Los Angeles. We surveyed 40 recipients who anonymously received the FightAsthma Danger Text. The Text is only sent during highest asthma danger days designated by real-time data analytics of the community conditions associated with asthma hospitalizations.

FightAsthma Text is part of the FightAsthma Tracker supported by the Blue Shield of California Foundation, Knight Foundation, and the Sierra Health Foundation Asthma Mitigation Project.
